Does CARLO share or train AI models on my data?
No. CARLO does not allow customer data to be used to train third-party AI models. CARLO accesses AI capabilities through secure APIs and retains control over how data is processed, stored, and protected.
All data is anonymized and tokenized prior to AI processing. Any embeddings generated are stored solely within CARLO-controlled systems. CARLO does not sell, reuse, or repurpose customer data for secondary uses.
Is CARLO more than an AI?
Yes. CARLO is not merely an AI tool—it is a CBA-created system for Catholic analysis.
CARLO uses a custom-built artificial intelligence engine to review your Summary Plan Document, but it does not operate alone. Every CARLO review is shaped by the Catholic Benefits Association’s theological expertise, ethical framework, and deep marketplace experience.
Our team works directly on the system’s design and continues to guide its development, ensuring that CARLO evaluates plan language through the lens of Catholic moral theology, the ERDs, and real-world benefits administration.
What you receive in your CARLO report is a synthesis of the best that technology can offer and the irreplaceable human judgment of experts in Catholic teaching and health-benefit practice. CARLO amplifies our expertise; it does not replace it.
How does CARLO keep up with legal and regulatory changes that impact religious freedom?
The foundation of CARLO’s model is the Church’s teachings on the human person and the application of those teachings to health care delivery. Using that solid foundation, CARLO compares legal and regulatory changes with Church teaching and flags any conflicts.
CARLO does not and should not replace your own legal counsel.
How long does a review take to complete?
Prior to CARLO, depending on demand, it could take several weeks or even months to finish a review. CARLO allows us to significantly shorten the initial review of the plan. Each review process also includes a meeting with our experts to go over the results and discuss implementation. Factoring in this element, we estimate that a review can be completed in 2 weeks.
How are the results of the review communicated to me?
The review consists of two reports. The initial report delivers CARLO’s results and provides a roadmap for you to consider any recommendations and make changes to your plan. After meeting with the CBA team and making any changes, you will receive a final report that documents the outcomes. The report will not only highlight problems that are being fixed but also ways that your plan’s Catholic identity is being enhanced.
